Advocacy and Action - Working With Elected Officials

United Policyholders works to level the playing field by advocating for strong legal protections for policyholders and by promoting insurance consumer interests in public policy matters.  Below are some of the letters written to protect and consumer interests.

Black Forest Fire - Insurance Claim Help

United Policyholders is a non-profit organization that is a voice and an information resource for insurance consumers in all 50 states.  We have helped guide disaster survivors on the road to recovery for over twenty years, including Colorado residents impacted by wildfires in 2010 and 2012, 2013 and the recent flooding.

Roadmap to Preparedness - On the Road

Our Roadmap to Preparedness program has expanded beyond the Bay Area and into Southern, California and most recently, the mountains outside Boulder, Colorado at the request of the United Way. UP staff members are increasingly in demand as featured speakers at events aimed at helping people be more insurance literate and avoid coming up short on coverage after disasters.

Consumer Groups Denounce Attack on Consumer Watchdog

Mercury Insurance is only beneficiary of smear campaign

The latest attack on Consumer Watchdog proves that when you take on powerful corporate interests and beat them, you make enemies.

Consumer Watchdog is a courageous and remarkably successful advocate for consumer rights. An attack dog website was launched today that serves as a preview of the campaign against Consumer Watchdog we anticipate from George Joseph, the billionaire chairman of Mercury Insurance. The site features personal attacks on Consumer Watchdog employees.

UP at the NAIC

UP is one of only a handful of property experts on the consumer side at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and one of the only consumer reps that do “on the ground” direct work with individual consumers in claim scenarios. Executive Director Amy Bach is a funded consumer representative at the NAIC.  We bring regulators attention to real life problems.
