My friends car was stolen, then recovered after 42 days. The insurance Co hadn't yet settled. They said they needed 30 days to investigate after which they would settle. The car was found, the following day a final agreement was supposed to be reached. Is there a specific time period in which they must settle in CA? Does the car still belong to my friend as the insurance CO. claims? Some minor damage was done, but we feel we should pay for an independant total mechanical inspection to see if underlying damage was done. They are sending an adjuster --which is fine-- but he's not going to be able to do much except start it up and listen to it. Also, There were thousands of dollars of tools in the vehicle. (she has comprehensive $500 dedect.) I know they are not normally covered, but in the case of vehicle theft , is there an exception? Thank You
